M/V Galapagos Discovery
In 1999, the M/V Galapagos Discovery, a 285ft x 48ft cruise ship, caught fire in and grounded in the old French cut of the Panama Canal, then capsized. In October 2001, Titan was contracted by the Panama Canal Authority to remove the wreck. Pfitzco, Inc., working in conjunction with Titan Maritime, designed a system consisting of vertical driven sheet piles and two barges outfitted with multiple Pfitzco designed 300 ton pullers. The system was then used to parbuckle the vessel upright without damage to the sensitive environment. The vessel was then re-floated and towed offshore for scuttling.
